DIY bowl made of air-drying FIMOair
It's the little things in life
We all know the situation too well: putting important little objects somewhere specific and the next morning they're nowhere to be found. It can be so frustrating or sad to have lost your ring or keys again. These homemade FIMOair bowls are perfect for storing all your small items – such as jewellery, cosmetics, keys and paper clips. Put an end to the chaos and searching, once and for all!
Roll out a block of white FIMOair with the acrylic roller to create an approx. 6 mm thick sheet on a piece of baking paper.
Tip: To achieve an even thickness, you can place the pencils next to the clay and roll the roller over them. Using the pencils this way ensures that your sheet of clay is of an even thickness.
Take a round cutter the size of your choice (e.g. 10 cm) and cut out the basic shape of your bowl.
Place the cut-out circle on your porcelain or glass bowl. Press it gently so that it clings nicely to the bowl. This creates a beautiful, semicircular shape for your bowl.
Smooth out the FIMOair mixture with damp hands. You can smooth out any cracks, transitions and unevenness with a moistened modelling spatula or a damp finger.
Now leave your project to dry, on the bowl, at room temperature for at least 24 hours.
When your FIMO bowl is completely dry, carefully remove it from the other bowl. You can easily sand sharp edges or uneven surfaces with the damp sanding sponge.
Now it’s time to paint! Use acrylic paints of your choice and paint your motifs exactly as you want them. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
Tip: The paints can be easily mixed together, giving you an even wider choice of colours.
Now it will look great with a few splashes of paint. Mix any colour, such as black, with a little water and use a toothbrush to pick up the colour. Put on disposable gloves. Now swipe your thumb over the bristles to create splashes on your bowl. Let everything dry completely.
As the final step, paint your bowl with FIMO gloss varnish and allow it to dry well again. The varnish makes the dish shine like glazed ceramics and protects against moisture and dirt. You can create also other little bowls in different sizes and colours. There are no limits to creativity!
