Our history
For over 190 years, the name STAEDTLER has stood for ideas that last. Our roots go back to the 17th century - to the early days of Nuremberg’s pencil makers. What began back then with handcrafted writing instruments has evolved over generations into a company that brings creativity and innovation together worldwide.
From the first graphite pencils to the introduction of the Noris pencil and on to a wide range of writing, drawing, and creative products—our history is shaped by a pioneering spirit, a wealth of ideas, and the courage to break new ground.
Today, just as in the past, our mission remains the same: to inspire people around the world with high-quality products, helping them bring their thoughts, ideas, and visions to life and in doing so, to continue writing a new chapter in history.

Whether it’s wood shavings transformed into high-quality pencils (“Made from Upcycled Wood”), barrels made from 97% recycled plastic, packaging containing up to 80% recycled material, or the consistent implementation of environmental and quality management in accordance with ISO standards—our commitment is clear: sustainable quality from material selection through production to use.
For us, sustainability means not only consuming less, but also producing sensibly, creating durable products, and taking responsibility - for the environment, society, and future generations.
