Baby Shower – marquee lights letters

Baby Shower – marquee lights letters
60 minMedium

These pretty letters made from FIMOair basic not only make great gift ideas for a baby shower, they are also very easy to make.
It’s always cause for celebration when a baby sees the light of day. Many new parents therefore give a party beforehand, where the main purpose is to shower the mother and baby with gifts. But what would a baby shower be without decorations? These sugar-sweet marquee lights made of FIMOair basic will lend a wonderful sense of style to the candy bar and are real eye-catchers.

Step-by-step tutorial

For each letter, dampen your hands and knead a pack of FIMOair basic into a ball. You may need to use more or less modelling clay, depending on how big you want your letters to be.

Using the two square battens and the acrylic roller, roll out into a rectangle about 10 cm x 10 cm. Rest the right and left side of the acrylic roller on the battens to ensure your sheet is an even thickness.

Cut the letter template out of paper and place it on the FIMOair basic sheet. Scratch round the outlines with a knife. This works best if you keep dampening the point of the knife. Then carefully remove the letter template.

Cut the letter out of the FIMOair basic using the damp knife. Keep on dampening the knife and insert it vertically into the FIMO so as to ensure the edges are as straight as possible.

Smooth out any uneven areas with damp fingers and level off the surface the letter will stand on using the edge of the knife, to ensure that it can stand upright. Make the other letters in the same way.

Leave all the letters to dry thoroughly at room temperature (min. 24 hours). Keep turning them as they dry, so that the air reaches all sides of the letters.

After the letters are completely dry, smooth out any uneven areas using the sanding sponges.

Mix your desired shade of acrylic paints and paint the letters in different colours using a paintbrush.

Once the paint is dry, stick a few cotton wool balls onto the letters with superglue, creating a lovely marquee lights look.

And you're done!
