Baby Shower – baby mobile

Baby Shower – baby mobile
120 min Medium

Moon and stars mobile – a lovely, home-made way to help a newborn get to sleep.
There’s nothing nicer for a baby than listening to a quiet song from the musical box and looking at a mobile hanging above them. This home-made mobile high above a changing table or a cot is the perfect way to send a baby off to sleep and a decoration that he or she can watch for hours. The mobile is easy to make from FIMO soft and takes no time at all.

Step-by-step tutorial

Place a block of FIMO soft or FIMO effect (in a colour of your choice) on baking paper and roll out into a sheet around 0.8 cm thick using the acrylic roller.

Cut out several stars, clouds and moons using the cutters. Form what remains into a couple of balls in different colours.

Tip: Work directly on the baking paper, so that there’s no need to pick up your designs and you can put them straight into the oven on the baking paper. This will mean you don't distort their shape.

To make the large cloud, roll out one block of FIMO soft white into a sheet using the acrylic roller. Place the sheet on baking paper and cut out a cloud shape using the knife. Use the lolly sticks to prick a few holes in the cloud, 4 at the edges (to hang the mobile up) and 6-8 others at random. This is where you will attach the threads later.

Now harden all the shapes on baking paper in the oven for 30 minutes at 110° C / 230° F.

When they have all cooled, use the drill to make a hole through each shape, going from top to bottom, so that the shapes can be hung up later.

It’s a good idea to lay the drill flat on the surface, to ensure that the hole you make is nice and straight.

When all the FIMO shapes have a hole in them, start threading them.

To do this, thread a long length of wool (min. 50 cm) through the needle and first of all tie three knots right on top of each other at the end of the length.

Thread on the first shape, e.g. a star, and tie another triple knot about 10 cm above it. Now thread on the next shape etc.

Repeat with several lengths of wool (as many as there are holes in your cloud), until you have threaded on all the FIMO shapes.

Cut a lolly stick into pieces about 3 cm long using the scissors. Push the cord with the FIMO shapes threaded on it through your chosen hole in the cloud from below using the needle.

Knot the cord firmly around the lolly stick. This will fix the cord to the cloud.

Once you have attached all the cords to the cloud (it looks best if they are different lengths), attach longer cords to the 4 outer lolly sticks. These can be used to hang the mobile to the ceiling of the child’s room.

And you're done!
