Tropical party – fruity glass covers

Tropical party – fruity glass covers
25 min Easy

These sweet little fruits won‘t just look great at your tropical party – they also act as covers to make sure that no uninvited guests land in your drinks.
And as well as being practical glass covers, they’ll also make great coasters and will be the perfect match for your tropical decorations.

Step-by-step tutorial

Roll out one block of FIMO soft in emerald using the acrylic roller, to a thickness of about 4 mm.

Cut the circle template (9 cm) out of paper, place on the FIMO sheet and cut round it with the knife.

Download template

Tip: Place baking paper underneath the FIMO sheet beforehand, to make it easier to put into the oven later on.
This will prevent you from pulling the FIMO circle out of shape when you remove it from the surface it is on.

Now roll out a block of FIMO soft in white using the acrylic roller, to a thickness of 1 mm.

Cut out the circle template (7 cm), place it on the white FIMO sheet and again cut round it with the knife.

Roll out one block of FIMO soft in indian red with the acrylic roller to a thickness of about 1 mm.

To make the melon seeds, roll some black FIMO soft into tiny balls with your fingertips and scatter over the red FIMO sheet.

Cover with baking paper and roll over with the acrylic roller, applying gentle pressure so as to incorporate the black dots into the red FIMO sheet.

Now cut out a circle using a round cutter (6.5 cm diameter).

Alternatively, cut out the circle template (6.5 cm) in paper again, place on the red FIMO sheet and cut round it with the knife.

Tip: Work in progress and left-over material should be protected against sun and heat and can be stored in a screw-top jar or in cling film to protect it from dust and dirt.

Now place all 3 circles on top of each other in order of size and press down carefully so that they hold together.

To enable you to fit a straw through later, cut a 1 cm hole in the centre of the circle.

LIME:
To make a cover that looks like a lime, roll out one block of FIMO soft in apple green using the acrylic roller, to a thickness of about 4 mm.

Cut the circle template (9 cm) out of paper, place on the FIMO sheet and cut round it with the knife. Set the rest aside. Repeat with a block of FIMO soft in white, but roll the sheet out to a thickness of 1 mm. Then cut out a circle with diameter of 7 cm.

Now take the acrylic roller and roll out the remaining apple green FIMO soft (you can use the clay you have just set aside!) again to a thickness of 1 mm.

Divide the circle template (6.5 cm) into 6 little “pieces of pie” and cut these out from the green FIMO sheet.

Now place the FIMO circles on top of each other, first green, then white, and finally position the individual pieces of pie.

Place the green pie pieces around the middle to look like a lime.

To enable you to fit a straw through later, cut a 1 cm hole in the centre of the circle.

You can create as many other fruits as you like in this way. When you’re happy with your FIMO fruits, place them all on baking paper and harden in the oven for 30 minutes at 110° C / 230° F.

DONE!
