Perfect imperfection – FIMOair DIY bowl
Do you have a lot of clutter? Perhaps so many rings and earrings that you never manage to find a matching pair? Do you often misplace your keys or are you looking for a unique dish to hold nuts or other small items? The solution to your problems is here, with this homemade bowl made of air-drying FIMOair modelling clay. The best thing about it? The bowl doesn't need to be modelled perfectly; it's the imperfections that make it special. To be very wabi-sabi about it: "Nothing lasts, nothing is finished and nothing is perfect." So let’s get started! It’s easy. FIMOair dries easily in the air and the bowls can be made in less than an hour.
What you need
|FIMO® 8711 Modelling tools - Wallet containing 4 different modelling tools
|FIMO® 8700 05 Acrylic roller - Blistercard containing an Acrylic roller
Baking paper, Small bowls that serve as a template for the shape
Lay down some baking paper. Then divide the FIMOair modelling clay into 2 pieces and shape them into balls.
Use the acrylic roller to roll out the ball in a circle-like shape on the baking paper, so that it is approx. 2-3 mm thick. The thicker your clay is rolled out, the stronger your bowl will be at the end.
Extra tip: To add texture to your surface, you can also add different textiles, such as a piece of coarse fabric, and use the acrylic roller to press in the texture.
Now carefully lift your almost-round piece of modelling clay, place it over or in your bowl and make sure that the rolled-out clay moulds to the shape of the bowl. To get the wavy edge, let the edges of the clay naturally bend in and out, creating the imperfect look.
You can try out different shapes, depths and sizes with the bowls to create different FIMOair bowls.
Now leave your bowl in or over the template bowl to dry at room temperature for around 24 hours. For thicker bowls, drying takes a little longer. Once it’s dried well, you can gently lift it off. Done!
