Enchanting earrings in a tangle look

Enchanting earrings in a tangle look
30 min Easy

An intricate mix of patterns and bold contrasts are typical characteristics of the ornate tangle technique. Whether black and white or with colourful accents, these hand-crafted earrings are true eye-catchers. Thanks to the transfer technique, the designs are quick and easy to copy onto the FIMO. Simply place a laser photocopy face down onto a sheet of FIMO – a mere couple of minutes later, the motif has been transferred to the clay. A good alternative for stunning contrasts of colour is the fill-in technique which can be used to achieve attractive textures and effects.

Step-by-step tutorial

Begin by rolling out 2 strips of white FIMO soft to an approx. 2 mm thick and 4 x 8 cm large sheet (clay machine on setting 1). Take 1 strip of black FIMO soft and roll it out to a 1 mm thick (clay machine on setting 3) and 4 x 8 cm large sheet and place the white sheet on top of it.

Print the pattern sheet out with a laser printer. Select a motif, cut it out, place it face downwards on the sheet of white FIMO and smooth over the paper to ensure it is lying flat and evenly on the paper.

Tip:
Alternatively, you could draw your own patterns. To do so, draw your design in one of empty boxes and copy twice so that both earrings have the same motif.

By creating your own designs, you can make truly unique earrings. The pigment liner 308, line width 0.3 mm, is ideal for the drawing of intricate patterns. Have fun designing.

After approx. 10 minutes, peel the paper off carefully. The motif has been transferred onto the FIMO. Use a beadpiercing needle to make a hole in one of the corners approx. 2 mm from the edge. This is for the jump ring later on.

Cut the motif out along the edge with a blade. Leave a little bit of white around the outside as you do so. Then harden in the oven for 30 minutes at 110°C.

Once cool, colour over the white edge with a black Lumocolor permanent duo.

Tip: You can also add beads or other silver-coloured jewellery elements to the earrings between the hooks and FIMO motifs.

Finish off by going over the surface with a protective coat of gloss varnish.

Once dry, the hooks and jump rings can be attached to the earrings.

Tip: Thanks to its two tips in the line widths M and F, the duo can be used for colouring in large areas as well as for oing over fine lines.
