Royal Christmas - DIY Christmas cards
“Giving means presenting someone with something that you would like to keep for yourself,” as Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf knew only too well.
Home-made Christmas cards are great fun, because they give you a wonderful opportunity to design something personally and send it by post to someone you love. After all, everyone likes to receive a home-made, handwritten card. You can keep these kinds of cards all year and enjoy them again and again. Since it’s Christmas, add bit of glamour in the form of leaf metal in gold to give your card a more luxurious look.
Cut out a 15 x 15 cm card from sugar paper.
Carefully prepare a sheet of leaf metal and have a glue stick ready.
Apply glue to the upper edge of the card. Apply the gold leaf to the card edge and press gently with a finger. Do the same with the other edges of the card.
Then stroke a paintbrush backwards and forwards over the leaf metal until you have removed all the pieces that are not stuck down.
Print out the template. Shade over the back of the template with a soft pencil (e.g. Lumograph B6).
Go over the letters with a (sharp) HB pencil, to transfer the design. Before you remove the template, lift it up from the bottom corners to check that you have transferred all the lines.
Use the metallic marker in gold to dot berries onto the twigs in the wreath. Then transfer some colour to a small china plate from the metallic marker.
Pick up the colour with a dampened round brush and use to colour in the acorns and go over the greeting. Make the down strokes thicker than the others.
Go over the remaining lines of the wreath and the other words with a fibre-tip pen in purple or any other colour of your choice. If you like, you can create a 3D effect by adding shadows in purple.
