Recycling, upcycling, conserving resources: STAEDTLER makes its products even more sustainable

The future needs good ideas – this approach is deeply rooted at STAEDTLER. As a stationery and creative goods manufacturer, we stand for sustainable action, not only with regard to our products, but also in the interests of nature and future generations. In a continuous pursuit of efficiency and resource conservation, we have found innovative ways to make our pens and creative products even more environmentally friendly. With our sustainable philosophy, we are setting an example for the future.

Pencils “Made from Upcycled Wood” gain TÜV certification

Sustainability is not an empty promise at STAEDTLER, but a lived commitment. We continuously invest in optimising our manufacturing processes and products. An excellent example of our commitment is the production of our pencils and coloured pencils “Made from Upcycled Wood”. These unique pencils are made from wood chips that are waste products in the wood processing industry. The chips are ground and turned into a granulate, which then is used to produce high-quality pencils. With the innovative process, wood waste is upgraded and transformed into something new – entirely according to the principle of upcycling.

We are proud that all pencils and coloured pencils “Made from Upcycled Wood” are successively certified with the Green Product Label of TÜV Rheinland for their top performance in the area of environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. The following models are currently already certified: 120, 183, 185, 187 and 188. The chips used for production come from PEFC-certified, predominantly German forests (PEFC/04-31-1227). In addition, all "Made from Upcycled Wood" pencils are made in Germany. Thanks to their high quality and resistance to breaking, they are particularly durable and save resources.

Step-by-step, we are switching to recycled materials for plastic pens. The housings of our pens, i.e. the barrel, cap and end cap, are made of 97 percent recycled plastic for products from the Lumocolor family, triplus fineliners and triplus fibre-tip pens.

Sustainability in plastic: pens with recycled housings

STAEDTLER is also breaking new, sustainable ground with regard to plastic products: Step-by-step, we are switching to recycled materials for plastic pens. The housings of our pens, i.e. barrel, cap and end cap, are made of 97 percent recycled plastic in these models, in accordance with ISO 14021. Many products from the Lumocolor product family are already made from recycled materials. In the future, the housings of the triplus fineliner, the triplus fibre-tip pens and the textsurfer will also be made from recycled plastic. Another example of our commitment is the Noris writing pen, a fineliner for school, which is also made from recycled material.

Many of our pens, the housings of which are made of 97 percent recycled plastic, carry this sustainable message outwards on their barrel print. They are also available as a sustainable set. The design of the packaging highlights the sustainable thinking behind the product range and provides customers with useful product information. The cardboard packaging consists of at least 80 percent recycled material, further underlining our endeavours to be more sustainable.
