Mountain lake painted on rock

Mountain lake painted on rock

It is awesome to get inspired by nature. Sometimes it is even more interesting to let a piece of nature be your canvas. During a foray through the hills and mountains you will always find a stone which offers the ideal surface for a little piece of art.

Step-by-step tutorial

First clean your stone thoroughly of soil and dirt. Then finely crosshatch centred mountains with a black pigment liner (line thickness 0.3 or 0.5 mm) onto it.

With different acrylic blue shades, you now create a blue gradient that runs from the foot of the mountains to the lower end of your stone. At the lower point the gradient ends in a deep black blue. Then use white acrylic paint to apply soft waves and foam crowns to the surface of the water.

Paint the sun behind the mountains from the middle to the outside with white and yellow acrylic paint. For the sky, mix a light blue shade with a little water to dilute the paint slightly, and let the blue and yellow flow into each other around the sun.

Apply some yellow acrylic paint to the surface of the lake and apply a few sun reflections. When the acrylic paints are dry, you can use metallic markers to draw a glittering fish into the blue lake surface.

With green, blue and silver metallic markers you can now conjure up a shining underwater landscape. Since all pencils and colours used are waterproof, you can use your stone as a decoration in your garden.
