Our history
For over 190 years, the name STAEDTLER has stood for ideas that last. Our roots go back to the 17th century - to the early days of Nuremberg’s pencil makers. What began back then with handcrafted writing instruments has evolved over generations into a company that brings creativity and innovation together worldwide.
From the first graphite pencils to the introduction of the Noris pencil and on to a wide range of writing, drawing, and creative products—our history is shaped by a pioneering spirit, a wealth of ideas, and the courage to break new ground.
Today, just as in the past, our mission remains the same: to inspire people around the world with high-quality products, helping them bring their thoughts, ideas, and visions to life and in doing so, to continue writing a new chapter in history.

Whether it is wood shavings transformed into high-quality pencils (“Made from Upcycled Wood”), barrels made from 97% recycled plastic, packaging containing up to 80% recycled material, or the consistent implementation of environmental and quality management systems in accordance with ISO standards, we continuously work to develop our materials, products, and processes and to use resources efficiently.
For us, acting responsibly means combining quality with durability, selecting materials thoughtfully, and continuously improving our processes step by step. In this way, we create products that support people in bringing their ideas to life, learning, and expressing their creativity for many years to come.
