Snazzy dirndl jewellery

“The barrel is tapped!”
Whether for the famous Munich Oktoberfest, Gäubodenfest or simply the parish fair in the next village: traditional dress and dirndls are more in fashion now than ever before. And it goes without saying that for anyone who’s anyone, matching jewellery is a must! Using the acrylic roller, roll out a 3-4 mm thick sheet of chocolate-brown FIMO and cut a heart out of it. Next, roll out 1/8th of a strip of glitter white to an approx. 5 mm thick string and lay this around the edge of the heart. Press on gently.

Use a modelling stick to make lots of small indents in it, so that it looks like a piped icing trim.

Next, roll out a very thin string of gold-coloured FIMO and use this to make the writing. Make a hole at the top of the heart using a bead piercing needle.
Tip: Unfinished items and left-over bits of material can be stored in a sealed plastic bag or airtight container, e.g. a plastic box or jar.

Use half a strip of FIMO in the granite stone colour to make a ball and then flatten it to a cylindrical shape. Cut the bottom and top off using the blade. Use a left-over bit to roll out a 3-4 mm thick piece of string and shape it into a circle. To make the handle, position the join of the circle half-way up the cylinder and press on carefully.

For the frothy head, shape a quarter of a strip of glitter white to a half-ball and place this on top of the tankard. Carefully add a small drop of froth on the tankard as well. Use the rounded edge of a modelling stick to make a few indents in the froth.
Tip: Anyone who wants to ‘posh up’ their traditional jewellery can add rhinestones here and there simply by pressing them into the soft FIMO before hardening.

Shape half a strip of granite to a ball and press it flat using your finger. Next, roll out a quarter of a strip of glitter white to a 6-7 mm thick string. Cut 8 pieces off it, each of them 6 mm wide. Roll the slices to small balls and then flatten and shape them to make them look like grains of rice. Position the 8 rice grains symmetrically around the granite-coloured circle and then make an indent lengthwise on each one using a modelling stick.

Cut another 8 pieces off the roll of glitter white – this time only 3-4 mm wide. Once again, roll the pieces to small balls and shape them to look like grains of rice. Place these smaller petals in-between the larger ones and make indents like before. Now roll out an approx. 3 mm thick string using sunflower FIMO. Cut several 2-3 mm thick slices off and shape them into balls. Position approx. 7 of these balls in the middle of the flower and make subtle indents in them using the tip of a modelling stick. Using a needle, make a hole through the circle for the hanger.

Form a ball out of a quarter of a strip of gold and then roll it into a long sausage. Make the middle of the sausage nice and thick and thinner towards the ends. Now twist the thin ends around each other twice and then, to make the familiar pretzel shape, fold them back onto the thick middle part. Press on carefully.

Roll a quarter of a strip of glitter red to a ball and press flat. Shape one end to a point using your fingers. Use the modelling stick to make an indent at the other end to create two round curves. Make a hole through the heart using a bead piercing needle starting exactly in the middle between the two curves and coming out at the other end as close to the tip as possible.
Now bake everything in the oven for 110 minutes at 30°C to harden. If you like, you can add a coat of gloss varnish to the hardened items. Once cool and dry, add a wire hanger and snap-hook to each of the FIMO items. Put them on the bracelet in any order you like.
