DIY FIMO leather-effect Halloween Bat Bow Tie

A Halloween costume is just a bit „too much“ for you and you can‘t think of any alternatives? Then you’ve come to the right place! Because there are also spooky, stylish, yet very subtle outfit ideas for the 31st of October for adults. So how about our FIMO leather-effect bat bow tie for a chic, simple „grown-up scary look“?
Knead a block of FIMO leather-effect black gently in your hands and shape it into a ball. Then roll the ball with the acrylic roller into a sheet that is very thin and at least 25 cm long and approx. 15 cm wide.
Carefully remove the FIMO leather-effect sheet from the surface using the blade.
Tip: The leather effect is even more striking if you gently move the FIMO leather-effect sheet again with your hands after rolling it out and pull it slightly apart.
Then place the FIMO sheet on baking paper. Now cut out the paper template and place it on the FIMO leather-effect sheet. Then you can cut out the sheet around the template with the cutter knife.
Remove the excess, reshape it into a ball and repeat steps 1 + 2. The plate must now be about 10 cm wide and at least long enough to fit around the neck of the person who will be wearing the bow tie.
Now place the narrower FIMO sheet on baking paper and use the cutter knife to cut the following straight strips (e.g. using a ruler):
- 1 x approx. 30 cm long and 1 cm wide (length of neck circumference)
- 1 x approx. 5 cm long and 1 cm wide
Tip: Work in progress and left-over material should be protected against sun and heat and can be stored in a screw-top jar or in cling film to protect it from dust and dirt.
Place the baking paper on a baking tray, place all pieces flat on the paper, and allow to harden for 30 minutes at 130°C/ 265° F in a preheated oven with top/bottom heat.
Allow the parts to cool down well and, while doing so, have scissors, elastic band, hook-and-loop fasteners and super glue ready.
Place the long strip centrally between the short strip and the wing piece so that it is enclosed when the short strip is closed (step 9).
Attach the hook-and-loop fasteners to the two ends of the long strip so that they can close together when folded around the neck.
Done! Now the scary party can start!
