Glittery FIMO bunnies in a coiled design

Glittery FIMO bunnies in a coiled design
Medium

Whether as a decoration for your window sill or table, these cute bunnies made from glitter–coloured FIMO effect are guaranteed to brighten up any day.
The body is quick and easy to make by wrapping long strings of glitter-coloured FIMO effect around an egg. The strings are best created using the FIMO professional clay extruder. Simply put the modelling clay in, turn the handle and watch a perfectly shaped, uniformly thick, long string of FIMO come out as if by magic.

Step-by-step tutorial

The bunny‘s body is made up of one blown egg covered in coils of glitter-coloured FIMO effect. The other parts of the body (ears, front and hind legs) are cut out of a sheet of glitter FIMO effect. Begin by preparing the quantities of glitter FIMO effect required for the respective colour blend:

Light pink bunny
To cover the egg in light pink you will need 4 stripes of FIMO effect in glitter white and ⅛ of a strip of FIMO effect in glitter red; for the pink-coloured body parts, 4 stripes of FIMO effect in glitter white and ¼ of a strip of FIMO effect in glitter red.

Blue bunny
To cover the egg in light blue you will need 4 stripes of FIMO effect in glitter white and ⅛ of a strip of FIMO effect in glitter blue; for the blue-coloured body parts, 4 stripes of FIMO effect in glitter white and ¼ of a strip of FIMO effect in glitter blue.

Green bunny
To cover the egg in light green you will need 4 stripes of FIMO effect in glitter white and ⅛ of a strip of FIMO effect in glitter green; for the green-coloured body parts, 4 stripes of FIMO effect in glitter white and ¼ of a strip of FIMO effect in glitter green.

For the coating, roll out the given quantity of FIMO effect in glitter white on a sheet of baking paper using the acrylic roller. Place the required quantity of glitter FIMO effect in red, blue or green on top and roll out again. Fold the rolled-out sheet of modelling clay in half and roll again; repeat this procedure until the two colours have blended together completely.

For the body parts, make a 2 - 3 mm thick sheet in the same way using the respective colours and quantities given above.

The easiest way to make the strings of FIMO effect required for the spiral covering of the egg is to use the FIMO professional clay extruder.

Roll the light pink, light blue or light green sheet of FIMO effect to a sausage using your hand. Fill the clay extruder with half of the sausage, insert the motif disc with the 2 mm hole (see instructions) and turn the handle to create a long string of FIMO effect.

Make another long string using the remaining half of the sausage.

Press one end of the string of FIMO effect onto one end of the egg and wrap it around the egg in a spiral.

Smooth over the seam where the two strings meet.

Tip: Create coil-look Easter eggs in colours to match the bunnies and hang them up. You can make unicoloured or multicoloured Easter eggs. For a multicoloured design, simply use different-coloured strings of FIMO effect.

Print the pattern sheets out on paper and cut them out. Place the templates for the ear, front and hind legs on the respective pink, blue or green sheet of FIMO effect.

Cut each motif out twice by going around the edge of the paper template with a knife; turn the ear template over before cutting out the second ear. Use a sharp modelling stick to make two indents in each of the front and hind legs.

Knead the left-over bits of light pink, light blue or light green FIMO effect strings together and roll them out to a thin sheet using the acrylic roller. Use the template to cut out the shape for the inner ear, turn the template over and cut out again.

Press one inner ear onto each of the ears, smooth over the edges of the inner ear using either your finger or a modelling stick. Use light pink-coloured left-overs to shape a small, round nose for the blue or green bunnies and use pink-coloured left-overs to create one for the light pink-coloured bunny. Now position the different body parts on the covered egg, press them on, smooth over the joins where they meet the body and bend the ears to shape. Use the clay extruder and motif disc with 1 mm hole to create thin, short strings in black FIMO soft (approx. 1 strip). for the mouth. Press two tiny black balls on for the eyes.

Stand the bunny on a piece of baking paper and place in the oven for 30 minutes at 110°C to harden. Use small glasses as support for the ears to keep them in shape during the hardening process. Take out, leave to cool and then varnish.
