The Red Dot jury found The Pencil impressive in every respect:
For this year's Red Dot Award in the category Product Design, 40 international design experts evaluated 4,815 entries from 53 different nations.
Our stylus pencil The Pencil was awarded with an 'Honourable Mention' in recognition of its outstanding design.
The grand finale of this internationally renowned product competition is due to take place on 7th July 2014 in Essen: Presentation of the prestigious seal of quality at the traditional Red Dot Gala and subsequent Designers' Night.
Around 1,200 guests from around the world will gather in Essen for the award ceremony.
The event also marks the opening of the winners' exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum where our award-winning product The Pencil will be on display to a wide audience for four weeks before being integrated in the museum's permanent collection.
The jury found all aspects of The Pencil convincing:
- Degree of innovation
- Formal quality
- Symbolic and emotional content
- Product periphery
- Self-explanatory quality
- Ecological compatibility
- Competition at international level
With origins dating back to 1955, the Red Dot Design Award is now one of the largest, most influential design competitions in the world. In the year 2013, more than 15,500 entries from 70 different nations were submitted. Structured in the three disciplines of product design, communication design and design concept, the Red Dot today provides documentation of the most remarkable trends and best designs in the worlds.
In June 2013 in Berlin, our Noris stylus learner's pencil complete with STAEDTLER/Cornelsen learn-to-write system was distinguished with the highly coveted Comenius EduMedia Award for outstanding performance in terms of educational value, content and design.
STAEDTLER came up with a clever solution: A new learn-to-write app and the Noris stylus pencil. The app playfully introduces children aged 3 to 6 to the world of tablet PCs while fostering their fine motor skills at the same time using the Noris stylus to complete different writing exercises.
The Noris stylus is a jumbo pencil in ergonomic triangular shape. The clever thing about it: There's a rubber tip at the end of the pencil which is ideal for children for doing exercises on their tablet PCs. What's more, they can use it as a pencil too and practise things they've just learned on paper.
STAEDTLER wins first place with WOPEX as 'Bio Composite of the Year 2009'!
The Bio Composites Congress took place in Stuttgart on 26th and 27th October 2009 as part of the AVK Annual Convention and COMPOSITES EUROPE Exhibition.
WOPEX won first place as ‘Bio Composite of the Year’ from a total of three nominated finalists.
It was the second time that the innovation prize had been awarded at the Bio Composites Congress.
The products submitted were appraised by a jury made up of representatives from nova-Institut as well as congress sponsors and partners.
The outstanding ‘Top 3’ entries were nominated from the total number of submissions received prior to the congress.
The STAEDTLER innovation WOPEX impressed not only the nomination jury but also the many professional visitors to the congress.
The winner was determined by a vote carried out among participants on day one of the event. Result of the voting was that the WOPEX pencil was distinguished with first place for the 'Bio Composite of the Year' innovation award.
