30 min Easy

Put an end to tangled cables with FIMO leather‑effect. Whether you use them in your technology drawer or your handbag, these practical and pretty cable holders will keep headphone cables etc. tidy and ensure you always have them to hand. And with FIMO leather-effect you can design, emboss or embroider them however you like. It remains flexible after it has been hardened and can even be sewn.

Step-by-step tutorial

To make the white textured version, knead 4 portions of FIMO leather-effect ivory until soft, shape into a flat sheet, pass through the clay machine on setting 1, then switch to setting 2 and pass through again. Now place the FIMO on the texture sheet and pass through the clay machine on setting 3. Remove it from the sheet and cut out a circle.

Cable holder with spotted pattern:

Knead 4 portions of FIMO leather‑effect watermelon until soft and then pass through the clay machine on settings 1, 2 and 3, rolling out into a thin sheet. As an alternative, you can also use the acrylic roller.

Now shape half a block of FIMO leather‑effect ivory into different-sized balls and press them randomly into the red sheet. Then pass the sheet through the clay machine once more on setting 3. Turn the sheet once through 90° and pass through the clay machine one last time, on setting 5.

Next, cut out a circle using a cutter about 8 cm in diameter. Then harden for 30 minutes on baking paper in a preheated oven at 130 °C / 266° F on upper and lower heat. Make sure that everything is lying flat. Once the circle has cooled, fasten the studs to opposite sides in accordance with the manufacturer instructions.

Tip: The material shrinks slightly during hardening, so if you want to create an exact circle, you will need to trim it to shape after cooling. It also looks good if you trim the edge with pinking shears.

Cable holder with stamped lettering:

Knead 4 portions of FIMO leather-effect saffron yellow until soft and pass through the clay machine on settings 1, 3, 4 and 5, rolling it out into a thin sheet. As an alternative, you can also use the acrylic roller.

Use the letter stamps to stamp the desired word, e.g. “camera”, into the FIMO sheet (caution: make sure you arrange them back to front).

Embroidered cable holder:

Knead 4 portions of FIMO leather-effect lagoon until soft and pass through the clay machine on settings 1, 3, 4 and 5, rolling it out into a thin sheet. As an alternative, you can also use the acrylic roller. Next, cut out a circle using a cutter about 8 cm in diameter. Then harden for 30 minutes on baking paper in a preheated oven at 130 °C / 266° F on upper and lower heat. Make sure that everything is lying flat.

After it has cooled, sketch in the clef in pencil and preferably pre pierce it with a thin bradawl, then embroider with backstitch using three strands of embroidery thread.

Finally, fasten the studs to opposite sides in accordance with the manufacturer instructions.
