Step-by-step tutorial

Roll out a block of FIMO leather-effect indigo into a sheet using the acrylic roller and shape the sheet into a large rectangle using your fingers.

Now pass the FIMO sheet through the clay machine. Start on setting 2, gradually getting thinner until you reach setting 9. The sheet should be big enough to fit the whole of the A5 cover.

Tip: The leather effect stands out even better if you move the FIMO sheet gently by hand after rolling it out, pulling it apart a bit.

Now lay the FIMO leather-effect sheet completely flat on some baking paper, taking care not to leave any air bubbles under the sheet. Remove the A5 cover from the spiral binding of your notebook and check that it fits completely onto the FIMO leather-effect sheet.

Print out the template for the diamond pattern and cut it out. Then place the template in the middle of the soft FIMO leather-effect sheet. Go over the lines of the template gently with a pencil, transferring the lines to the FIMO leather-effect.

Shake the FIMO liquid gold well and then apply it carefully to the lines. The lines should all be about the same thickness. If you need to, adjust them using a toothpick. When you have gone over the whole of the diamond, lay the sheet on the baking paper in the oven. Harden in a preheated oven for 30 minutes at 130° C / 266° F on upper and lower heat.

Once everything is completely cool, lay the notebook cover on the hardened FIMO leather-effect sheet. Take a Lumocolor non-permanent, trace around the cover and the holes for the binding and then cut around the shape precisely using the scissors.

It’s best to use a scalpel to cut out the holes for the binding. If any pen marks are still visible, they can be removed easily with a baby wipe.

Now you can attach your finished cover to the binding of your notebook. And your custom-made notebook is finished.

Tip: There are no limits to your creativity as far as your choice of design is concerned. Choose a diamond, a heart, your initials, or a simple dot design - anything goes.
